Montgomery, AL. The first annual Turkish American Day at the Alabama State Capitol was held on May 5th, 2011 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This special program organized by Peace Valley Foundation and Turkish-Alabamians aims to introduce Alabama Senators, Representatives, staff and the public to Turkish culture through fabulous food, fun and art demonstration.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of authentic Turkish cuisine provided by local Turkish-Alabamians and learned more about the country of Turkey, its culture and the Turkish-American community in the region. Guests also enjoyed the Turkish Ebru art (paper marbling) demonstration, in which the artist uses special dye to create images in water that are then absorbed by paper.
